Quark Pan vs Baidu Pan for downloads outside China: which one is easier in 2026
Two Chinese clouds dominate the links you get sent from China: Baidu Pan (pan.baidu.com) and, increasingly, Quark Pan (pan.quark.cn, Alibaba's). Both are painful from outside China for the same reason — a mainland phone number to register, and a throttle on free accounts that turns a 2 GB file into an afternoon.
We have fetched both for people outside China for months. Here is how they compare when all you have is a link.
The short version
| Baidu Pan | Quark Pan | |
|---|---|---|
| Free account | ~0.05–0.07 MB/s — a 2 GB file is 9+ hours | ~0.06 MB/s — same |
| Paid tier (SVIP) | ~15–19 MB/s — a 2 GB file in about 2 minutes | ~18–36 MB/s — a 2 GB file in about a minute |
| Paid tier price | about ¥30/month | about ¥25/month |
| Registration from abroad | +86 number needed | +86 number needed |
| Can you see what is in a share without an account? | No — login first | Yes — file names and sizes are public |
Both free tiers are useless. Both paid tiers are fast, Quark a bit faster in our measurements. Neither is worth registering for if you have one file to fetch.
Why the free tiers are so slow
Both clouds throttle per account, not per connection. Opening more threads in a download manager does not help: the cap is on your total, and it is deliberate — the free tier exists to sell the paid one. The paid tier removes the cap entirely, which is why a service that fetches links for you can be fast while your own free account crawls.
What this means if you just have a link
- A 2 GB file takes minutes on a paid tier of either cloud. On either free tier: most of a day.
- A 20 GB folder takes well under an hour on a paid tier; on a free one, forget it.
- Neither is worth registering for to fetch one file. The account, the phone number and the paid-tier payment (Alipay, which needs a passport to verify) cost more time than the download saves.
Reading a Quark share without an account
One genuine difference: Quark share pages are readable without logging in. Anyone can see the file names and sizes, password-protected shares included once you supply the code. Baidu shows nothing until you are logged in.
For you it means a Quark link that "won't open" is almost always a dead link, not a login wall. If a Quark share shows 分享已失效 or an empty page, ask the uploader for a new one.
Where BaiduFast is on Quark
Quark support has been live since 23 September 2026 and is fully automatic. Paste a pan.quark.cn link on the home page: you see the real size and price first, small files are free, and the rest costs the same as a Baidu link. The Quark Pan guide has the step-by-step.
Paste the link on the home page — you see the exact size first. Free under 150MB, no account, direct or Google Drive link.
